Jon Fenn – Managing Director

This is the vision I aspire to achieve every day in my career. I believe in having a clear and communicated strategy with smart objectives and targets with exciting goals to be achieved. I take great pride in involving others in the development of a plan to succeed and empowering them to deliver elements of it so that they can share, own and feel part of the vision I am trying to achieve in the face of all types of changing and challenging situations.

Specific experience includes:

Railway Operations – 15 years experience covering Train Crew management, Station Operations, Control Centre & Service Delivery management, Train Planning, Resourcing, On the Day Delivery and Performance.

Leadership & Development – 16 years experience excelling in leading and developing teams through identifying new opportunities, setting challenging goals that excite and drive individuals using core engagement techniques to maximise their performance.

Performance & Operations Efficiency – developing industry leading performance improvement packages, including setting cross-TOC targets and developing supporting Performance Improvement Plans. Experience in Risk Management Maturity Model for Performance (RM3P) approaches, optimising operating procedures to achieve excellent performance results.

Stakeholder Management – Senior experience in engaging with stakeholders including local representatives, suppliers and key industry partners including Network Rail to create a balanced and joined up vision for delivering a service that simplifies operational complexity and enhances and maximises customer value.

Change Management – 8 years experience managing projects and programmes to quality, time and cost constraints. Led the operational Go Live of York Rail Operating Centre and the delivery of an industry leading multi-TOC operations transformation programme.

Julie Franklin - Business Manager

Julie has spent most of her career managing large businesses and helping them to align projects to their strategic objectives. With demonstrable experience in project management she is key to ensuring deliverables are executed in a timely manner.

Specific skills include:

  • Strong communicator  – excellent at ensuring actions are captured and at discussing client requirements with other team members.
  • Project management and admin support – significant experience and skills to make sure projects run to time and are delivered to plan.
  • Attention to detail– a keen eye for detail and precision ensuring the high standards we pride ourselves in are always met.

Andy Mead - Lead Associate

Andy has significant hands on railway experience in a variety of roles starting his career with British Rail and dedicating his working life to jobs across the industry ranging from Train Crew Supervisor, Route Performance Manager, Programme Management and Head of Crime and Security. His experience in rail is extensive and provides an insight into various functions and his passion for continuous improvement drive his appetite to deliver excellent insights and knowledge for our clients.  

Specific skills include:

  • Programme Management  – over 10 years experience in managing various delivery projects spanning several roles for TOCs. Extensive skills in managing suppliers and ensuring KPI’s and business objectives are adhered to and meet franchise agreements. 
  • Personable and knowledgeable – able to lead teams and workshops in a manner that encourages participation from all delegates to ensure that recommendations and resources are made and utilised to enhance the current service offering. Able to delve deeper into suggestions to ensure that they are results driven and will make a real difference to rail operations.

Richard Aitken - Lead Associate

Richard is an experienced rail industry professional with a proven track record of leading strategic initiatives and driving innovation in the rail sector. Richard excels in strategic planning, project management, and operational management, consistently delivering positive results for both public and private sector clients. His work includes delivering complex projects in live railway environments, as well as implementing innovative solutions to enhance rail operations, significantly improving operational efficiency and capability.

Specific skills include:

  • Project Delivery– Leading high-performing teams and managing complex projects in operational environments to deliver key objectives and requirements.
  • Operations Technical Leadership – Managing technical teams as workstream lead for multiple franchise and concession bids, as well as leading major timetable development.
  • Research & Innovation– Undertaking industry research to identify new methodologies and technologies to unlock efficiencies and deliver operational improvements, such as authoring the RSSB ITSR Disruption Management toolkit.
  • Operations Planning– Significant experience and expertise in the planning of railway timetables and resource planning, including fleet deployment and crew rostering.

Stuart Rands - Project Lead

Commercially astute and solutions-oriented visionary with over three decades of experience sharing technical and operational expertise to optimise service delivery, improve performance and increase passenger satisfaction and safety within the rail sector across the UK, Middle East, North America, and Africa. Astute in rail and station operations, functionality, integration and train service interface while delivering high performing and engaged teams. Stuart sensitively navigates ambiguity to build consensus among diverse stakeholders in often heavily politicised environments, securing buy-in to recommendations supporting multibillion-pound high-level change and commercial arrangements, as well as economic and environmental benefits.

  • Program Leadership – Delivered a multi-disciplinary, integrated operations approach for London Overground.
  • Station Operations – Achieved a 15%+ reduction in operating organisational costs.

Clint Alexander - Lead Associate

Senior infrastructure and operations leader transitioning into consulting, with 30 years’ experience advising executive teams and delivering large-scale change across the UK rail network. Proven at diagnosing complex performance, safety, and organisational challenges, designing pragmatic solutions, and leading their implementation in highly regulated, politically sensitive environments.

Key strengths include:

  • Program Leadership – Led a major change portfolio within Network Rail’s Central Route Infrastructure Directorate, delivering around £10m in annual operational savings across 60+ improvement initiatives.
  • Incident & Crisis Management – Qualified Rail Incident Commander, operating at Strategic (Gold) level during major incidents and system-wide disruption. Led and assured programmes during periods of significant disruption, industrial action, and nationally critical events, providing calm, credible executive counsel.
  • Infrastructure, Operations & Asset Performance – Negotiated and secured unprecedented performance commitments with multiple lead operators over two consecutive years, directly contributing to record-breaking route performance.

Hannah Cox - Engagement and Production Lead

A professional and experienced Marketing and Design Manager with extensive communications and business change experience. Hannah has specialised in Rail but also worked in the FMCG sector before joining the team as Communications and Engagement Lead in 2021. Hannah is passionate about ensuring teams and individuals are engaged from the start when leading projects and ensuring that professionalised documents are both captivating and accessible.

Specific experience includes:

  • Brand Guardianship and Development  – 15 years experience in working with brands to apply them correctly, provide guidance for suppliers, develop sub-branding, manage large scale de-branding and mobilisation of branding during franchise changeovers and monitoring brand tracking and create programmes to improve satisfaction scores and brand awareness
  • Leadership– managing a team of agencies and designers across a wide range of fast-paced marketing campaigns and business change projects
  • Excellent Communicator and Content Creator – passionate about making sure that all project materials are accessible and communicates it’s objectives whilst targeting the audience in a bespoke and engaging manner
  • Stakeholder and Supplier Management – Senior experience in engaging with stakeholders and key industry partners including Network Rail, TOCs, DfT and print and marketing suppliers.

Saf Akram - SME

Saf joined British Rail in 1993 and spent his whole career on the railway ​until retirement. He is so passionate about Control and Operations that he joined as a consultant in 2022 working on the Integrated Train Service Recovery Project. His invaluable knowledge of Control and understanding of the rail network has contributed to the success of the project.

Specific experience includes:

  • Former Head of Control – over 30 years experience working in TOC Controls with in depth understanding of the roles and the responsibilities and how they deliver a service both for passenger and freight operations.
  • Problem Solver– a professional at resolving issues as they arise and how they can be overcome to deliver against project objectives and inline with project plans. 
  • Excellent connections in Rail– derived from a long and dedicated rail career Saf has many contacts across the country which helps with initial and ongoing engagement of projects for those in busy, high pressured roles.

Bryan Keetch - SME

Bryan has over 30 years operating, leading and renewing UK railways. He is highly skilled in leading large teams as well as managing budgets and projects to time. With a vast knowledge of programme, project & portfolio management, contract management and safety delivery.

Specific experience includes:

  • Former Head of Control – experience working in NR Controls with in depth understanding of how they deliver a service both for passenger and freight operations.
  • Programme Management– extensive experience in managing complex operations projects for the industry, including introducing airwaves radios and system upgrades for Controls both in the UK and abroad.
  • Excellent connections in Rail– derived from a long and dedicated rail career.
  • Innovation– Passionate about driving change and continuous improvement in Rail.

Mark Bird - SME

An Experienced Passenger Rail and Express Freight Subject Matter Expert with a proven track record of driving ancillary revenue growth and leading technology transformations in the UK passenger and express freight rail sectors. Mark possesses extensive expertise in enabling customer information and technology ecosystems that leverage data, automation, and AI to deliver enhanced performance and sustained revenues.
